About this painting In “Like a Farewell – Trịnh Công Sơn and the Last Love Song” I wanted to paint not only a portrait, but a feeling – the soft ache that lives inside his song “Như Một Lời Chia Tay”. Trịnh sits quietly with his guitar, eyes turned inward as if listening to a memory instead of the world around him. The colours behind him drift like galaxies of sound – notes dissolving into sky, fragments of old conversations, the thin yellow flower at the edge of the horizon. At his feet, a girl lies with her hair flowing into the water, surrounded by roses. She can be a muse, an old love, or simply the image of “a little love that once drifted by like wind” – just enough to make us look back at ourselves. The water reflects the music; each ripple is a small goodbye. This painting is my own way of saying thanks – to Trịnh Công Sơn, to the songs that held my youth, and to all the quiet farewells in life that taught me how precious each meeting is.

Trịnh ngồi lặng với cây đàn, ánh mắt như hướng vào bên trong, lắng nghe một ký ức hơn là thế giới bên ngoài. Phía sau là bầu trời loang màu như những dải ngân hà của âm thanh – nốt nhạc tan vào mây, mảnh đối thoại cũ, đóa hoa vàng mỏng manh ở cuối chân trời. Dưới chân ông là hình bóng người con gái, mái tóc buông chảy xuống mặt nước, xung quanh là những đóa hồng. Cô có thể là nàng thơ, một mối tình xưa, hay chỉ là hình ảnh cho “chút tình thoảng như gió vội” – vừa đủ để ta ngoái nhìn lại chính mình. Mặt nước phản chiếu tiếng nhạc; mỗi gợn sóng là một lời chia tay nhỏ. Bức tranh này là cách riêng của mình để nói lời cảm ơn – với Trịnh Công Sơn, với những bản nhạc đã ôm ấp tuổi trẻ, và với tất cả những cuộc chia tay lặng lẽ trong đời đã dạy mình biết trân quý từng lần gặp gỡ.
